Plumber in Rincon, GA

Rincon at a glance

Rincon is a city of 10,934 people (2020 census) in southeastern Effingham County, up from 8,836 in 2010. It was incorporated in 1927 and is part of the Savannah metropolitan area.

What that means for your plumbing

Growing towns mix new subdivisions on city sewer with older and rural homes on septic. Septic systems don't like grease, wipes or chemical cleaners. If you're not sure which you have, ask the plumber to check during any visit, and read about drain cleaning.

Rural edges

Outside town, longer service lines run from the meter or well to the house. A wet, green strip in a dry lawn can mean that line is leaking; see leak repair.

The railroad and the corner

Rincon grew after a railroad from the Carolinas to Savannah came through in the 1890s, with a depot and a telegraph office by about 1895, and a dirt road that became State Highway 21. The name is thought to come from Rincón, Spanish for an inside corner, though locals say RINK-in. Earlier, the first settlers reached the area in 1751, but little was built until the railroad arrived, and farmers who had hauled cotton and lumber to Savannah could then ship from Rincon instead. Older homes near the original depot area may still have aging drains; if more than one backs up, see sewer line repair.
